New laser treatment battles baldness, July 19, 2007
New laser treatment battles baldness The Sunetics Advanced Laser Therapy System looks like something right out of "Star Trek." But 52-year-old Geoff Fowler doesn't mind. He just wants the hair on the back of his head to come back.

"I feel self-conscious about it because people when they talk to me … their eyes wander up," he said.

"Certainly no adverse affect from it, no heat or anything like that, but a little tingling is normal," said Dr. James Harris, Hair Sciences Center/Denver.

Guys talk grooming, July 18, 2007
Does he … or doesn't he? Only his dermatologist knows if a man is on Propecia, the baldness drug — but other guys are wondering.

Ditto whether he's unfurrowing his forehead with Botox. Or brightening his mug with microdermabrasion.

Women have long tittered about whether a friend has gotten Botox, a nose job or breast implants, but guys are forming their own gossip networks.

Procedure Gives Hope To Women With Thinning Hair, July 17, 2007
For years, many believed that transplants for thinning hair were strictly for men.

However, the refinements in hair restoration surgery have allowed women with thinning hair to feel like their old selves again.

It is believed that hair loss affects as many as 30 million women in America.

Temporary hair loss could be caused by dieting, medications or pregnancy and doesn’t require surgery.

However, certain medical conditions could make the problem a permanent one.

Because of the physical and emotional effects of hair loss, some women have decided to undergo hair restoration surgery.

In 2006, there was a 70-percent increase in the numbers of women having the procedure done over the numbers in 2005.

Laser may increase hair density for some men, July 10, 2007
About 55 million American men have some degree of hair loss, thus creating a potentially big market for an effective at-home treatment.

The HairMax LaserComb may be an option for men who don't want to pay for hair restoration surgery but who also don't have high expectations. It delivers a specific wavelength of light that stimulates the hair follicle, says its manufacturer, Lexington International.

In studies by the manufacturer, the device increased the number of thick hairs in 93 percent of 120 users. The average increase in hair density was 19 hairs per square centimeter — roughly a 20 percent improvement in someone with thinning hair.

The device costs $545 and must be used 10 to 15 minutes a day, three times a week to maintain the effect.
